It's name always appear in our local newspaper and I just can't give myself anymore reason not to pay a visit to this Japanese Restaurant. Located at one of Ipoh's hot spot for night life, Bandar Medan Ipoh has much to offer for a fine dinng place. A Lai I Japanese Restaurant seems to be a recommended place to be if you are craving for those scrumptious Tepanyaki or Sushi.
After Renovation. I can't recall how exactly this restaurant looks like before the renovation but it does looks very nice now.
This is their version of California maki. The fish roe is place on the top of the sushi instead being wrapped around the rice layer. This allow you to bite through the whole chunk of fish roe resulting a greater popping effect from the roe.
A set of fried veggies and prawns seems tempting. Though I was looking for a Bento set instead but I don't seems to find one in their menu. But well, I'm craving for some fried stuff so this would made a good choice afterall.
A set of Seafood Tepanyaki definitely make ones drooling. Okay, atleast it makes me drooling now looking back at the photo. A complimentary set consisting prawns, salmon meat, squid, chicken meat together with some veggies grilled to perfection with tepanyaki sauce. Now, who doesn't wish to have a taste of this superlicious dish.
For some unknown reason, both dishes above doesn't comes with rice. Duno whether this is their uniqueness style or what but I have to fork out another 3 bucks for an add-on set of rice consisting of a bowl of rice, soup and steamed egg for each dish.
Overall, I find the food at A Lai I quite decent but their menu is simply of a common list of delicacies that any regular Japanese Restaurant would have. Perhaps they could create a signature dish or something which could differs them from other similar restaurant out there.
Price wise, the total bill sum up to exactly RM60.00. A reasonable price for dining out in a Japanese Restaurant.

just tried it last week. food is nice among the many japanese restaurant i went b4. price is reasonable and there is a discount for certain bank too.
i miss alaii :) the food there was good ! :D

I recently went here for buka puasa with my brother during the month of Ramadhan since it is a pork free restaurant. We ordered the Bento Set for around RM25+. For me, their fish were nice and so was their beef. However, i think that if u want to order Bento set, Sushi King would offer a better deal. My brother also said that their rice balls taste just like those in Japan :D
I am trying to find a date to go there again and order something else from the menu.
