CRT, LCD or Plasma TV?

My good old 21 inch Toshiba Bomba has just black out and it is time to get a new TV set. Should I get a conventional CRT or cool LCD or maybe a giant Plasma TV?

Toshiba BOMBA TV
It has been more than 4 years that the 21 inch Toshiba BOMBA accompany me. Remembering back to the time when I bought this TV, I was kind of poor. Back then, I was in the process of moving into my own house and is saving like mad for my wedding which is like one year ahead. Budget it very tight as there are a lots of other spending needed to fullfill. So, I decided to get a budget TV set.
While most friends has been showing off their 29 inch Wega in their living room, I only has this 21" little TV set in the corner.

I don't make good amount of money, so just live with what I could afford. The Toshiba BOMBA comes with one year manufacturer warranty plus 3 years paid extended warranty. Ya know, electrical things nowday can just goes off at any time and their life span is just a few years time. So, it is good to get a longer warranty period if you plan to use it for a longer period.

The little TV has black out 2 or 3 times on the 3rd and 4th year before the warranty completely expired. Few days ago, it has exhale it's last breathe. Gone black out for the very last time. Since it's warranty has expired and the TV itself has been quite aged, I guess it is time to get a new TV set instead of fixing it for just another few months life.

I have been driving around surveying TV yesterday. No work to do, so free la.
Looking by the trend of today's, CRT TV is really dying off the shelves. Since most major manufacturer such as Sony has stop manufacturing CRT TV, there are very limited model available out there to choose from.

LCD and Plasma TV
From my point of view, both LCD and Plasma TV was just about the same. Though plasma panel could reach over 100 inch in size while LCD could only cope up to about 40 inch, but in terms of picture quality, I could hardly distinguish which one is better.

Courts Stock Clearance Sale
As i drove past the Courts Home Appliances shop beside Kinta City yesterday, I saw that they have Sale there. So, I sneak in to see what's on offer there. Maybe I could find myself a cheap TV set though.
Eventually, I found out that they are clearing out the Display Unit items. Ya know, those TV or HiFi which they put on display to customers to test one. They are selling it cheap with more than 50% off the actual price. Plasma TV, HiFi, DVD player, PDA, Hand phone, video camera, sofa, table and many more
But the catch is, no testing, no warranty, pure WYSIWYG, buy at your own risk.
Yeah, it is pure WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). If they put a 29" TV there, that is what you going to get, nothing else, no box, no manual, no warranty card, no remote control, no cable (except the electric plug), no nothing else. The only extra thing you going to get is the receipt!
If the unit turn out to be faulty, nasib lah!

Just how you going to use a TV or DVD player without a remote control? If can find it at supermarket then OK la, if not then nasib lah!
I almost fell buying a Dopod there but eventually didn't do so.

I finally bought a new TV
After surveying several shops for TV, finally I decided to buy it. I'm not an avid TV watcher but my wife can't live without it! So, it's better to buy one now before the house turn upside down!

Sony Bravia S400 LCD TV
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present you with my new TV set, the Sony Bravia S400 32" LCD TV

Yup, I just bought this 32 inch LCD TV which I felt really worth buying. Ya know, it is so cool to have a LCD TV at home :D.
Though a 32" was among the smaller size group of flat panel TV but that is all I could afford ma.
The salesman did told me;
'If you want 32" why not just goes with a 37" instead, price is slightly higher only ma'.

You see, the 32" cost 2.5k while the 37" cost 4.6k like that. Niasing, cost almost double and he say 'Slighly' higher ar!
I felt like want to give him a Smack Down liao la

Anyway, my living room is small, putting in a too large TV would makes me feel dizzy than joy. So, I feel a 32" fit just perfect la.

Sony Bravia S400 LCD TV
The TV comes with a HDMI cable but then, I do not have anything with this technology :(
Hell, it just mean that I'm going to fork out another bunch of money to buy a new DVD player liao la #$%^&.

LCD contrast is poorer than plasma, especially in dark region of color, you can compare it very clear when you play DVD on both TV, it's even obvious when you play on Bluray. However LCD consumes less electric power and have much lifetime than plasma. Normally LCD can be said is suitable for youngster like us, and plasma is more for old people.

Enjoy your bravia! It will blast you off if you play MGS4 on it.
