After our visit to the Seoraksan National Park, we head straight to the Taepo Fish Market. It is a market resided by the sea where people trade all kind of fresh sea product which is catch from the surrounding sea. Other sea product such as dried fish and seaweed can also be found here.
The entire stretch of the market consists of many of these small little show lot selling fresh sea products. You can also pick a few of these fresh creatures, have it cooked and serve to you inside the shop.
Some cute looking red crabs. I wonder how it was taste like.
Some monstrous king crabs. Not sure if these were catch from the nearby sea.
Squids swimming aggressively inside the aquarium.
Some flounder fish at the top and some odd looking shellfish on the bottom.
Ugh… puffer fish ballooning. Puffer fish has a very deadly toxin and it took great expertise to handle these fish. Though, there are still people dying every year consuming these deadly creatures.
Sturgeon fish. I never really see sturgeon fish before. These fish could grow up into a massive size.
Umm.. sea cucumber is it?
Fresh Abalone.
Shell fish and clamps.
More shell fish and clamps.
Sea urchin.
Some ugly looking creatures. Not sure what is it and how people tend to eat them. Don’t want to know either.
Dried seaweed on the sale. Seaweed makes good soup and it made good snacks too.
How about some freshly dried fish?
We spent about an hour time walking through the busy fish market. I was thinking back when I was walking through the fish market back home. I used to walk around the wholesale fish market early in the morning. Well, its only dead fish over there since I was not living anywhere close to the sea. We don’t really have any store selling fresh sea products like these and it was a unique experience.
Next, it is already afternoon and we’re heading for lunch.
It’s a steamboat fest along the trip at Korea. Today, we have seafood steamboat.
Inside the pan we have tofu, prawn, mussel, fish, soy bean sprout, udon noodle, vegetables and octopus.
As per usual, we also have those famous Kim Chi and soy bean sprout as our standard side dishes.
Yumm… the octopus got cut into pieces. Well, I’m not a fan of octopus though but the pot of seafood taste very well. But somehow, the octopus thing made me think about Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean... Hmmm.... I'm actually eating piece of Davy Jones!
As we done with the lunch, it is ready to heads to the next location, the Teddy Bear Farm.
