We head towards Suwon at the afternoon after visiting the Teddy Bear Farm. We get some introduction briefing during the journey from the local tour guide about thing to do and don’t when skiing. None of us have any experience on skiing and everyone getting really excited having be able to ski very soon.
As we getting closer to the skiing park, I saw many shops by the road side renting out skiing gear and equipments. We stop by on one of the shop to rent some skiing apparels. Although the entrance and skiing gear is included in the package but apparels such as gloves, goggle and clothes is on our own. Me and wife each rent a set of skiing clothes and goggle costing 25k won each person.
The evening skiing session starts at 6:30pm and we went on for early dinner before entering the ski park. Must charge up more energy to go skiing.
Somehow, I feel like eating at Korea is very repetitive. Other than breakfast, it was like every meal here is nothing but steamboat. Just dump everything into a bowl of water, boil it and done, eat it!
Not to mention these cold preserved vegetables. Every meal also has KimChi and you can’t run away from that soy bean sprout for lunch and dinner.
Getting gear up for skiing. Putting up an additional layer of waterproof jacket and pants plus the goggle is no big issue but when I put on the skiing boot, it was an instant WTF!
The boots were so heavy and that’s one thing. When I put on the boot, my foot and lower leg is completely locked and I could no longer move my ankle anymore. I end up walking like a robot on a damn heavy boot.
Then came the pair of ski glide. It is also much heavier than I thought to be. Once the glide is locked onto the boot, it’s like having it both locked together. It is near impossible to unlock it with my hand.
Our tour guide gave a final briefing about skiing and gave us some practical training before we went on skiing on our own in the park. As a rookie, we were placed on the newbie route with a very low slope to learn. There are two other routes with higher slope and greater difficulty for the experts to ski.
I find skiing is really fun but then, I just keep on falling one after another. Getting up on each fall become harder and harder as my energy is draining away. At the end of the skiing session, I felt pain almost everywhere on my body. Not fun anymore.
Having no chance of playing with natural snow, I grab some man-made snow at the skiing park. Yumm… kinda like eating ais kacang back home. Now, it’s certainly not for eating.
We left the skiing park at 8:30pm and head to town and call it a day. We were all tired after the skiing session.
We were lucky that our room is equipped with a computer and internet connection. Wife’s camera is almost running out of memory so I transferred it into a pen drive. The PC was set on Korean language and I really do have difficulty using it. Not able to read and understand the text, I couldn’t find the way to change the language either.
Our supper for the night, Korean instant cup noodle and instant 3 in 1 cappuccino coffee. It was a tiring day and there are few more days to go. Got to take enough rest. On the upcoming third day of the trip, I will be visiting the HwaSeong Fortress, Korea famous theme park, Everland and a night time shopping at the Dongdaemun market.
