When I was at China recently, out China's tour guide was so kind to explain to us about those little scooter which could be commonly sighted all over the town. At first sight, it wasn't anything much difference for us Malaysian where it looks just the same with our scooter here, except that the rider does not wear helmet!
Yes, that is a fact that the bikers there don't wear helmet!
I say, isn't that dangerous not to wear helmet while riding on a bike like that? And hey! I did saw a few of them were wearing helmet though! What is the rule here for bikers anyway?
OK, if you look carefully at those bike, it is NOT a motorbike like you may know. It is known as an Electric Scooter. It is operated on battery. Explained the tour guide.
Those who use Electric Scooter does not wear helmet while those who ride a petrol based bike is required to wear a helmet. Petrol based bike or scooter are rare now since it was pretty expensive (maintenance and petrol price). The price of petrol in China was about RM2.50 per liter.
So, how economy is these Electric Scooter anyway?
Well, if you were to buy a new Electric Scooter, the cheapest model would cost from RMB1500 per unit. That was about RM750 for a brand new scooter!
It run on a rechargeable battery which could last for about 50 to 90km per charge. Well, that was much less that our normal petrol based scooter huh.
Talking about the speed of these scooters, well, it depends on the motor power of the scooter. Typically, the motor power range from 500W to 1500W and the max speed range from 35km/h to 60km/h.
With such a low speed of these electrical scooter, it is not allowed to run on the main road in the city, it used the bicycle path next to the main road instead. Only petrol based bikes is allowed to ride on the main road.
Talk about the battery charge cost, you could rent a parking plus charging spot in most places in the city and it cos RMB15 per month. Thats RM7.00 a month with unlimited parking time and charging. Yeah, you could charge your bike until blown up and they won't care.
It cost me RM7.00 petrol just to go and back to work each day, not each week nor each month! Gosh, I want to move to China la.
There is this things that I really like about these electrical scooter, its silent. Unlike a petrol base engine which comes with an exhaust, electric scooter produces virtually no noise.
Unlike our Mat Rempit here who likes modify their machines especially the exhaust pipe, it create such an enormous nuisanse.
Also, it is environment friendly. With no carbon-monoxide produced, it doesn't create pollution and heat. The planet is getting hotter and hotter now and the effect of global warming is getting everyone's concern now.
All of all, I think our Bolehland should adapt this concept here. It is economy, environment friendly and would reduce the use of petrol, which is a very limited resource now.
It is also safe as it doesn't boost up to 160km/h and that would definitely reduces the death toll of our country.
Look at this beautiful scooter. It comes in various cool looks.
